New Moon, the second movie based on the Twilight series is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Trust me this is not Underworld: Vampires vs. Werewolves for teenagers. Instead, this movie is immoral brainwashing for young adults and teenagers. The subtle and/or explicit themes of statutory rape, suicide, murder, vengeance, love and lust are disturbing.

The heroine is obsessed with a 109 year-old vampire that is played by a pale-faced 20 something year-old. She breaks up with him soon after her 18th birthday. The intensity of their break-up in the wilderness causes her to be depressed for months, to hitch a ride with a fifty-year old, strange, biker dude against the recommendations of her friends. No doubt she develops suicidal tendencies and looks like she is high on drugs. The constant theme of Romeo and Juliet and their willingness to die for each other pervades the film. As if that's what hopeless kids need to see right now!

The movie continues at a slow pace, with a couple of fight scenes between vampires and werewolves. Meanwhile, the heroine engages in high-risk activities, such as riding a motorcycle at full speed for her first ride, cliff diving, begging to become a vampire, and switching back and forth between love interests. Not to mention, her complete disrespect for her father's love and truancy laws for high schoolers by disappearing for 3 days without notice.

Wow this is NOT a movie that I want young girls to see. The heroine is this movie makes dumb, inconsiderate and selfish decisions. Yet, this damsel in distress is guarded and protected by a multitude of people and/or supernatural creatures because she's "special". Ridiculous movie and it's a MUST NOT SEE...EVER!!!

I ran across (no pun intended) this sonnet published in 1630 by Jacobus Revius a Protestant poet and preacher who through a self-accusatory technique which many 17th century artists of the Calvinistic reformist movement employed to examine their relationship to Christ and profess their guilt for his continued suffering. It is in my opinion a reflective and self-depricating view of sin and Jesus' sacrifice. It means nothing if you don't believe. It, the paintings and poems are just that; words on paper, colors on canvas. But for those who do believe it has a chilling affect.

In Rembrandt van Rijns' (1606-69) historic painting "the raising of the cross" c.1633 he has painted himself in the scene as Christ's executioner with his trademark artist beret. Not as a solider following orders from his commanding officer or as a lowly roman subject of Prefect Pontius Pilate assisting in the slow and painful execution called a crucifixion; but as someone in command of his own role literally at the "center" of this epic depiction.

It is a quiet piece that is voluminous. It tugs at the core of the Christian message. It is a role that one does not view him or herself in. It is for introspective thought, contemplation, reflection and even just mere appreciation of words, color and form...beautiful art...beautiful poetry.

In Her Own World v2.0

I created this “scene” in response to a piece read during my creative writing class with poet Tony Medina. The poem was called Mermaid Song by Kim Addionizio

Though my own child likes to pose for a photo, I wanted to do something a lil bit more than to have try and recreat the picture presented in the poem.
I thought the shot was rather cute, so did a few of my classmates, one of which had to create a poem from my photo.

In not so recent days, a couple of people, actually one, has been wondering if I will ever hold a full fledge conversation with them again. I won't lie, there have been a few people I quasi-cut from my life. I don't have much (if any at all) contact with them anymore. I just choose to remain silent to each of them for different reasons. My silence has been worrisome on their part. I never really fully explained my silence just to say I was tired of explaining myself to them and/or they just never saw where I was coming from no matter how many times and how many angles I tried to get my point across. Their skull was just to thick to absorb the information.

I will admit, one person I randomly thought of so much that he contacted me out of the blue to pick up his stalkerish ways. I think I deserved that, since my mind was always wondering what happen to.....

Nevertheless he hasn't contacted me since that random day in January.

In my thinking and listening to the song "Never (Past Tense)" sung by Tina Arena, I was able to shoot some thoughts down in a matter of minutes. It's still a rough draft. I may tweak it a bit later on. However, I just felt like writing to those that I have chosen to remain silent to.

Maybe they will understand, especially one particular person.... he knows.

Lang Leav's Ambition is Sewn Up

Since graduating in 1998 from Cabramatta High School, Fashion designer, Lang Leav has achieved her dream.

Leav, who is 28, always dreamt of becoming a fashion designer. "There isn't an exact moment I can pinpoint when I realised I wanted to be a fashion designer, but I always knew I wanted to have a career in the creative industry. Art was always my favourite subject in school so I knew I wanted to do an Arts Degree at Uni."

Leav began to achieve her goals in 2005, when she won the Qantas Spirit of Youth Awards (SOYA), competing against 10, 000 other hopefuls. "Winning SOYA gave me instant credibility in the industry. it really opened up a lot of doors for me and I was able to take advantage of the opportunities that have come my way."

Leav is working with this country's finest designers. She landed herself a lifetime mentorship with fashion icon Peter Morrisey. "Peter Morrisey has been an amazing mentor. He's been very generous with his time and contacts. He is the first person I call when I have really good news!"

She has an impressive list of achievements since winning the award. She has staged a few solo exhibitions and has been astonishing the right people ever since. "I'm very excited about the things I have achieved so early in my career. I have learnt so much about the fashion industry as well as the underground art industry and running a viable business. I didn't set out to start a business, I sort of just found myself in one. I am still trying to get the hang of it," she said.

"Akina (the name of my label) is described as Hello Kitty but with an evil twist. It's a little gothic and dark but really cute at the same time," she said. The clothing is based on a girl named Akina. She has a fetish for stealing buttons so she attacks innocent teddy bears to steal their button eyes.

After graduating from University, Leav worked in several areas of design, including graphic design, illustration, packaging, web design, photography and digital imaging, before entering the fashion industry.

"Fashion design was just another area of design I wanted to try out. I just really loved it and have decided to stick to it ever since. All the other skills I picked up along the way were really valuable because it meant I could design my own swing tags, websites, brochures and photo shoots," Leav said.

A documentary on Akina was made and has aired twice on ABC TV in 2005, it was also aired internationally and Leav has received a fantastic response.

The financial crisis in the economy has affected many businesses in the fashion industry. "Because I run such a niche label, I haven't felt its affects. I sell my things in small quantities. However, in preparation, I will be developing products that are more affordable."

Her label has been a huge success in Australia and she has recently begun exporting her line to Japan and New Zealand.

Becoming a fashion designer isn't just about being glamorous in the fashion industry. "There is a lot of hard work involved. It's a very competitive industry so you have to keep finding new ways to stand out from the crowd. I'd say it's about 90% hard work and 10% fun stuff. You have to give it everything you've got, especially when you're working for yourself at home. It's tempting to stay in bed until 11am every morning but you need to be strict and disciplined with yourself or you'll never get anything done!" Leav said.

Leav is currently working with Cyrus Meurant, who is a young Australian composer of classical music. "We are putting together a concert/exhibition event late this year. I am very excited about it!
